Nocturnal Animals

We have learned about several different nocturnal animals. The students did a great job presenting their nocturnal animal projects!! We are still working on completing our digital book because there is a lot of information to go in it.

Busy Day

We have had a VERY busy day in 1st grade! This morning we had the Buffalo Soldiers come to our school and brought their horses but it started raining while we were outside so we had to have our presentation inside without the horses. It was still very interesting to listen to. You can learn more about the Buffalo soldiers at www.buffalosoldiers.org.

This afternoon we had Vehicle Career Day! It was a great afternoon for it and a lot of fun. We saw the State Trooper, Captain Jim and his magic, a homemade car, UPS, Let's Pet (pet store), Fox 8 news, an ambulance, a fire truck, Waste Management recycling, and a Freight line truck. There were many more trucks here but we couldn't get around to them all!

The State Trooper reminded us to wear our seat belts and to tell parents not to text and drive.
Captain Jim did some wonderful magic tricks to keep us entertained.
The homemade car was neat because he made it himself and drove it to Colorado!!
UPS told us how he packs his truck and delivers the packages.
Fox 8 news showed us the video camera and van and told us what he did.
The ambulance reminded us how to stay safe and to call 911 if there is an emergency.
The fire truck told us about fire safety and to call 911 if there is a fire.
Waste Management recycling told us what we can recycle and how they separate recycling at their plant.
The Freight line truck let us sit in his truck and told us all the places he goes and what he does too.

Welcome to October!! We are having a lot of fun learning about squirrels. We are also learning how to make movies with our pictures from the apple orchard! It is very exciting. Stay tuned for our finished project.

What a great day! We finished up our apple unit. We tasted apple crisp Newton's and did Venn diagram comparing them to the apple oatmeal cookies that we have already tasted this week. Both items were a huge hit with the students.

Today we took a field trip to Perry Lowe's apple orchard in Moravian Falls, NC. We had a great time going through the apple tree maze picking a variety of apples from the orchard trees. We also were able to take a hayride and learn about the orchard. The orchard is 100 acres. WOW! We also went to the apple house and learned how to separate apples into the different varieties and go into the cooler where the apples are stored.
Welcome to Mrs. Sanchez's 1st grade!
